Bearing Degradation and Seal Loss
High-speed rotating shafts depend on precision rolling-element bearings and dynamic seals to maintain sanitary operation. Over 5–10 years, bearing raceways develop spalling, internal play increases, and elastomer seals harden or crack. This allows moisture, dust, or product particles into bearing cavities, accelerating failure. Early signs include elevated noise levels, bearing temperature rise, and visible vibration during idle periods. Eventually, bearing failure causes catastrophic shaft damage, misalignment of the entire granulation bed, and potential product contamination.
