Corrosion Damage and Material Incompatibility
Aggressive chemical environments—solvents, caustics, reactive additives—attack ferrous metals, gaskets, and standard coatings. Localized corrosion weakens shaft strength, bearing races become pitted and noisy, and seals crack under chemical exposure. Replacing one seal or one bearing leaves corroded housings and misaligned remaining components still in service. A full rebuild includes assessment of all wetted and stressed surfaces, replacement with chemical-compatible materials (stainless, special alloys, engineered elastomers), and protective coating/passivation where needed.
